Staying Healthy In The Office World

Staying healthy is the biggest challenge when you are at work. Many unhealthy temptations may encourage you to ignore your health needs. Work pressure may make you forget about your minimum health requirements. In too heavy workloads, you start skipping your lunch or forget to take refreshment breaks. Everything takes a toll on your body. If you want to get the best working culture, avoid unhealthy office habits to enhance your work productivity.

Unhealthy Habits You Need To Avoid

Sitting for long periods:

Sitting for long hours is not a good thing for you. When you sit excessively, you will increase the risk of severe health conditions like weight gain, diabetes, and heart disease. In their post, CNN Health1 mentioned that sitting for long hours can increase early dying chances.

When you sit too much, it builds pressure on your musculoskeletal structure, causing pain, aches, and other serious problems. Pen State Study revealed that sitting for continuous four hours can shorten the discs in the lower back, and you will experience back pain due to this health issue. But, you can avert this situation by standing up and stretching for every 15 minutes in an hour to keep your spinal disc healthy.

A study released by The American Institute of Stresspointed out that 62% of workers experience neck pain due to their unhealthy working habits, 38% of workers have eye strain, and 38% feel pain in their heads. If this makes you worried, start embracing physical activities at your work. It does not require too many things from you. Take a 2-minute break and walk as it keeps you active, according to a study4.

Work pressure:

Job pressure makes you stressed. A report mentioned that 66% of workers feel dissatisfied with job-related stress. Prolonged stress is dangerous to your health.

Some workers experience acute pain, which lasts for the short term. You may experience the pain while completing a big project or preparing a presentation. This acute pain also causes serious health issues, and you may feel irritability, anxiety, stress, insomnia, and headache.

Chronic stress can cause serious issues for your physical and psychological health. People may get depressed due to this stress. It increases the risk of heart attack, strokes, and immune deficiencies.

Every problem has a solution. When you follow a self-care routine, you can easily deal with the work pressure.  Enjoy quality sleep, exercise regularly, and eat healthy meals. Go for a walk at lunchtime to relieve your stress. All these things will make your working habit healthier.

Unhealthy eating:

How and what you eat hold similar importance when it comes to getting a healthier life at work. When you pay attention to your eating habit, you may achieve your weight loss goal and stay active and fit. Concentrate on your protein intake and include the foods that help you stay energetic. You can accept the mindful eating concept that tells you to eat with attention to the smell, texture, and taste of the food. Leave your desk and enjoy your plate somewhere away from your workstation.

Bringing work home with you:

A survey revealed that around 70% of employees checked emails at their homes. Workers who take work home experience insomnia or sleep issue, according to a study7. If you want to enjoy a healthy life, leave your work at your office. Draw a line between your personal and professional lives.

Skipping meals:

You may tend to skip your lunch because of the work pressure or a sudden meeting announcement. Lunchtime meetings are common things in the offices. If you are aware of this meeting, eat before you attend it. You can also carry your lunch if the meeting is arranged on short notice.

Not staying hydrated:

If you forget to drink enough during your work hour, dehydration disturbs your performance and your concentration on the work. Drink adequate water to meet the fluid demand of your body. The recommendation for men is 3 liters of fluid in a day and 2.2 liters for women.

Poor posture:

Poor posture causes back pain, neck pain, and other body discomforts. Everyone experiences these health issues at their work, and your posture plays a major role here. Posture is all about how you hold your body while sitting, standing, and moving. Corporate wellness programs also concentrate on posture correction to offer a better working environment for employees. Companies also include sit-stand desks and ergonomic chairs to help workers correct their posture.

Not taking vacations:

If you are a workaholic and avoid vacations, you cause damages to your physical and psychological health. Vacations are not only for enjoyment, but they are a good choice for your health also. If you don’t want to disturb your workflow, plan vacations several months before to organize your task properly. It also helps you avoid work pressure when you go back to your work.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle at work is a positive thing for your health. It enhances your productivity and concentration power. Everyone agrees that work pressure is hard to avoid, but managing the stress is everything. Follow these positive habits and bring happiness to your life. Never stay ignorant to your health requirements, no matter how challenging the workload is. If your job does not give you space for your health, find a new job but never compromise your health and wellbeing.
